The automotive Turkish market, strategic for Autoparts from Spain’s brands

The Spanish Association of Automotive (SERNAUTO), in a joint effort with ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones set up from the 8th to 11th of June, the Spanish pavilion in Automechanika Istanbul 2023, a fair which is reference for the after-sales sector for the markets of Turkey, Eastern Europe and their areas of influence (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Iraq, Bulgaria, Romania…)

Turkey ranked 13th in vehicle manufacturing worldwide in 2021, being 5th at European level and devoting 74% of their production to exports. The automotive Industry is one of the main industries in the Turkish economy with 13 established large car manufacturers and a manufacturing capacity of +2 million units of vehicles. The car park goes over 25.2 million units from which approximately a 54.3% are turismos.

Due to Turkey’s relevance in the automotive sector, the Spanish Pavilion at Automechanika Istanbul 2023 was focused on setting value and make visible the Spanish automotive suppliers’ offer and promote Made-in-Spain components in the Turkish market, as well as profiling clients, promotion of commercial agreements and cooperation among companies.

Mª Begoña Llamazares, Market Responsible at Sernauto and Coordinator of the initiative Autoparts from Spain, assesses the participation in the fair: “Automechanika Istanbul is a great opportunity for Spanish suppliers in two ways: firstly, in terms of business development into the after-sales world locally since Turkey’s economy shows an important growth potential in this industry. Secondly, in terms of access and visibility in markets and regions, such as Central Asia and Transcaucasia as well as Middle East markets”.

Talosa, AMC, Icer Brakes and DYS, Spanish companies, members of the initiative, attended this fair and agree about the relevance of the event:

  • At Amadeo Marti Carbonell, they state that the participation at Automechanika Istanbul 2023 edition intends to strengthen already existing commercial relations and look forward to open new ones. “This fair has become the most important appointment for the Middle East’s after-sales market and AMC couldn’t miss it” adds Sergio Marti, Commercial & Marketing Director of AMC.
  • Icer Brakes also exhibited products at the Turkish event. “This year we decided to participate in Automechanika Istanbul because of its very international profile which allows us to be face-to-face with many of our clients in the area. Besides, it is a great platform to enforce our brand image and can help us to develop our presence in this market” explains Sébastien Pennequin - Commercial Director-.
  • Finally, at Talosa-DYS, they add that Automechanika Istanbul 2023 was a great opportunity this year while Automechanika Frankfurt took a break. It has been a meeting point for a large European public, which is always very interesting. The encounter was also appealing because of attendants from Eastern Europe, North Africa or Middle East which are objective potential markets for our business.
