Despite the context of macroeconomic contraction in some of the main markets, Spanish exports of automotive components maintain their leadership thanks to their quality, competitiveness and geographical diversification. Between January and April 2019, Spanish exports of automotive components reached a value of 7,355 million euros.
The main destination markets for Spanish equipment and components are still the countries of the European Union, with a market share of 72.5%. During the first four months of this year, sales increased to reach 5.336 million euros, an increase of 1.05% compared to the previous year.
According to the analysis conducted by the Spanish Association of Automotive Suppliers (SERNAUTO), the EU country where sales have increased the most is Portugal. The results in Portugal are very positive for Spanish companies, with a growth rate of 13% compared to 2018.
However, Europe is not the only destination for Spanish automotive component exports. Outside the European Union, the sector has markets such as Morocco, with a total turnover of 336 million euros and a growth of 2.2%, making it the largest buyer of Spanish automotive components outside the EU.
Another country to which Spanish component companies export is the United States, which maintains its second position, with significant growth compared to the same period in 2018 (+16.1%), reaching 317 million euros, as well as Mexico, with a growth rate of 9.63% and a turnover of 131 million euros. It is also worth noting the good performance of South Africa, which is buying more and more Spanish components with a significant increase of 16.4% in sales and a total value of 93 million euros.
Currently, there are over 1,000 Spanish automotive component companies operating on five continents and exporting to a total of more than 170 countries. The key to Spain's continued strength in the automotive sector is that Spanish companies lead in innovation and development, basing the manufacturing of their components on the pursuit of excellence. That's why more and more countries decide to buy their products.
