The automotive sector has been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic. According to estimates by the Spanish Association of Automotive Suppliers (SERNAUTO), the automotive supplier sector will close 2020 with a 15% drop in turnover and a 5% reduction in employment. The internationalization of our companies and their constant effort has made this impact somewhat less than expected, but it is undoubtedly an unprecedented drop.
Sernauto and Alexander Brenner, Partner at Roland Berger have prepared a study 'The COVID-19 crisis: a window of opportunity for automotive suppliers?' in which it is observed how in 2020 the drop in volumes has been "tremendous" and at a global level they forecast that "until 2025-2026 the vehicle production levels prior to 2018 will not be recovered, with Europe being the worst positioned region.
In the next 5-10 years, everything is going to change and cars are not going to be the same. Automotive suppliers must make sure they are well positioned. We have to run towards the future and suppliers cannot be left behind. It is essential to make a balance between what my business is in the future and, at the same time, reorganize to increase my current efficiency," he commented.
The automotive industry in Spain has turned into a very relevant sector in our industry and a reference worldwide. This is due to its high efficiency and productivity together with a qualified staff and a top automation level
Mobility is changing and, with it, the entire automotive sector is undergoing a profound transformation. The electric car is no longer a question of the future, but of the present, which opens the door to new challenges and business opportunities, especially in the manufacture of batteries.
The electric motor is revolutionizing the automotive industry and plays a pivotal role in the future of mobility. Spanish automotive suppliers have a prominent role in this shift and are driving the adoption and development of electric motors across the sector.
