From September 16 to 22, the "European Mobility Week" took place. This year, under the slogan "Zero-emission mobility for all", participants aimed to reflect the ambitious goals of a carbon-neutral continent by 2050, as outlined by the President of the European Commission during the presentation of the European Green Deal.
A total of 2,787 cities across Europe participated in this initiative, committing to test the latest innovations and advances in sustainable mobility, undertaking challenges and actions aimed at achieving this goal.
Throughout the week, cities, businesses, and local authorities shared their measures to achieve a world with carbon-neutral emissions. The initiative also seeks to highlight the importance of access to zero-emission transportation and promote an inclusive framework involving everyone.
Autoparts from Spain has also joined the European initiative as a demonstration of its commitment to sustainable mobility. The companies within the platform have sustainability in their DNA and invest in the development of technological solutions to make transportation increasingly safer, cleaner, and more sustainable.
Here are some contributions from companies towards achieving sustainable mobility:
Fersa Bearings: A Spanish multinational dedicated to designing, developing, manufacturing, and distributing high-quality bearing solutions for the automotive market. They are working on developing more efficient products with lower energy consumption.
The evolution of Fersa's product is a result of our progressive understanding of the market, particularly the needs of the original equipment. We focus on three avenues of work: improving product efficiency, increasing the bearing's lifespan, and integrating sensors to assist in measuring product performance.
Enganches Aragón: A leading company in manufacturing hitches for all types of vehicles. Recognizing the changes in the automotive market and the increase in hybrid and electric vehicles, they have started marketing Point of Charge Devices (DCP) that allow vehicle owners to attach a bike rack or a ball-mounted cargo carrier to the rear of the vehicle.
At Enganches Aragón, we provide both the product and the necessary technical report required for presentation in Spain to ensure a secure ITV (MOT) passage. Only by addressing the new market needs can we anticipate the requirements of future drivers and the environmental concerns of citizens.
Metalcaucho: Contributes to the development of more sustainable components by distributing the EGR Valve family, which helps reduce nitrogen oxide emissions through exhaust gas recirculation.
At Metalcaucho, we have 122 references of EGR valves that apply to the most important vehicle brands. Furthermore, from the product development department, we continue to work with the aim of introducing new items to the market that are more efficient and sustainable.
Furthermore, the leading company in rubber and rubber solutions for automobiles joined the ESG revolution in 2019 by incorporating environmental, social, and governance criteria into investment decision-making. These criteria aim, among other aspects, to build a world and a society that cares for the environment, making efficient and responsible use of natural resources.
Another company from Autoparts From Spain working towards achieving better air quality is Icer Brakes. In June 2020, the company launched the first self-consumption photovoltaic plant covering 19% of its annual consumption, avoiding the emission of 600 tons of CO2 each year. This has a positive impact on air quality similar to that generated by 45,000 new trees.
Another significant contribution to sustainable mobility from Spanish automotive components comes from Gestamp. "At Gestamp, we work every day to achieve a safer and more sustainable car, one that weighs less and is better for the environment.
The development and production of fuel-efficient vehicles are a key growth trend in the automotive sector. This is where the importance of lightening Gestamp's cars comes into play. "Reducing the vehicle's weight increases fuel efficiency and thus reduces CO2 emissions, making the body and chassis components we produce at Gestamp crucial for reducing emissions into the atmosphere. Furthermore, the accelerating electric vehicle market demands even more weight reduction for vehicles, as electric cars, due to battery integration, have a higher weight than combustion vehicles.
