The Spanish Association of Automotive Suppliers (SERNAUTO) took up the Responsible Business Comission as an element to contribute with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
This commission starts up as part of a SERNAUTO’s strategy to promote initiatives by the automotive Spanish suppliers to achieve UN’s 2030 Agenda plan: 17 objectives with 169 integrated and indivisible goals gathering economic, social and environmental issues.
The Responsible Business Strategy by SERNAUTO aims to a double objective: on one hand, to acknowledge everything the association and the sector has done so far and, on the other hand, to support companies facing social and environmental challenges so they can see them as transformation opportunities.
For accomplishing all that, SERNAUTO sets up actions on three basic axes: one, actions to create awareness and support for companies in the sector. Two: Actions to connect companies, initiatives and institutions that promote sustainable development. Three: act as an example and promoter of internal actions within the association.
Headed by one of SERNAUTO’s vice presidents, Miguel López-Quesada -Director of Communication, Marketing and Institutional Relations at Gestamp- (one of our platform’s companies), The Responsible Business Strategy by SERNAUTO bases its task in “collaborative work. It intends to offer a meeting point for companies in the sector and push projects, tools and initiatives which allow, the associated companies, to implement or improve their sustainable strategies, always looking at a shared-value generation and a contribution to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals” states López-Quesada.
In this moment, this commission is formed by expert leading automotive suppliers, many of them part of our platform: Gestamp, Grupo Antolin, or Lizarte. However, this structure will welcome more companies as the project progresses.
In September 2015, world leaders adopted altogether a set of global objectives to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda which sets 2030 as deadline to reach the goals defined for each objective.
Achieving such goals requires the imperative contribution of every social actor: from public authorities to private sector with the civil society in between.
That is the evolution of efforts to achieve SDG so far. Anyway, this year, 2020, will be probably a turning point for the task in hand. Why is that? The COVID-19 global pandemic we are going through right now
UN and many experts predict a tough impact of this global health emergency on the 2030 Agenda. Such impact may be positive, regarding the climate change fight, or negative, especially regarding a decrease of community health and the increase of inequalities thanks to the global economic slowdown.
However, at Autoparts from Spain and SERNAUTO, we consider we should keep working together both to face the pandemic and also achieve the SDG. The association will work on towards the accomplishment of the 2030 agenda.
Internationalisation is a priority lever for the development and growth of Spanish automotive suppliers. In a globalised context, it is essential as part of a company's strategy to be present and visible at the main international business meetings in terms of brand positioning and market diversification.
In 2022, the Spanish sector of automotive suppliers exported €22,669 million which shows a 15.4% growth compared to 2021. This number represented a new record in billing.
When it comes to maintaining a fleet of vehicles in optimal condition, having high-quality automotive spare parts is essential. In Europe, both importers and exporters play a crucial role in the supply of spare parts to meet the needs of the business market.
